IS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE?
Yes. We want Wood Badge to
be available to all Scouters. Often, participants are
partially sponsored by their units or their chartered
organizations. Limited scholarship assistance is available.
Please contact the
Course Director Kimberly Colonnetta if you would like to
discuss scholarship opportunities or an alternative payment
schedule. The best way to manage the course fee is to
register early and make regular payments until the fee is
paid in full.
ARE THEIR
PREREQUISITES FOR ATTENDING?
Yes, you
must have completed the basic training courses for your
Scout position and also have completed the outdoor skills
training programs appropriate for your position.
WHERE WILL I BE
SLEEPING?
From Sunday night through Wednesday night, you will sleep in
a tent at the Philmont Training Center. These aren't your
everyday tents. They are large, two-person wall tents with
concrete floors, electric lights, an electric outlet,
wardrobe, and two twin-size beds with mattresses. Modern
restrooms and hot showers are just steps away.
On Thursday and Friday
nights, you will sleep in a wall tent at Rocky Mountain
Scout Camp. These tents are a little more "rustic." They
have two twin-size beds with mattresses but lack electricity
and a wardrobe.
If you wish to stay on
Saturday night, you will be in your tent at the Training
Center
WHAT ABOUT MEALS?
At the Training Center, your meals will be prepared for you,
and you will eat in the dining hall. When you are at Rocky
Mountain Scout Camp, you will be preparing and eating
Philmont trail food.
WHAT IF I NEED A
SPECIAL DIET?
If you have a special diet requirement, let us know as soon
as possible. Philmont's isolated location limits the
availability of many specialized or kosher food items. You
may need to bring these items from home. Philmont's food
service staff will make every effort to meet your needs but
may not be able to accommodate persons following strict
diets for religious or medical reasons.
ARE THERE ANY
SPECIAL MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE COURSE?
YES! Philmont has weight and blood pressure
requirements, and all participants must complete a medical
examination prior to the course using a Philmont medical
form. The form will be provided to you starting March 1,
2009. To
download the height and weight requirements,
If you do not meet these requirements or have any questions
or concerns about the Philmont medical requirements please
contact the
Course Director, Kimberly Colonnetta.
WHAT WILL THE
WEATHER BE LIKE?
The weather is great! You can expect warm days, abundant
sunshine, and cool evenings. Rain is always a possibility.
WHAT GEAR DO I NEED
TO BRING?
The personal equipment list for the course can be downloaded
here.
WHAT ARE THE
UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS?
You will need to wear the full
field uniform
for your position in Scouting. The full uniform consists of
a Scout shirt, Scout long pants or shorts, Scout belt, and
Scout socks. You will also require an
activity uniform
consisting of the course T-shirt and Scout long pants or
